Echinoden Clan

Sub-class of Philoden Clan

The Echinoden are desert folk, hailing from the Serrano Terra area. Stories have it that their origins began with a troupe of Philoden getting lost, winding up upon the sands, though no Echinoden has any living memory of how their clan came about. Their resemblance to Philoden is obvious at first glance - all Echinoden display a roan marking that is common place in Philoden, and they also share the elongated fur resting upon their hips (also known as wing hips), though theirs point downwards to help sand slide off easier.

We have found that referring to any Echinoden as a Philoden brings offense to the individual.

Not necessarily a trait, but a proud tradition is their scarf wearing, or so we are told. All young foals in the Echinoden clan have to earn their scarf through a series of trials, usually involving ruins. Occasionally they will leave the clan in order to earn their scarf by bringing back treasures and objects from the outside. As it is earned, the scarf holds immense importance to any Echinoden individual, and they take the up most care to keep it clean and free of damage.

Colours of scarves seems to largely depend on social standing, but the ordering isn't yet documented. Only one particular lineage has been seen wearing a white scarf however, which leads us to believe that these individuals belong to a ruling class. How the scarf is worn, however, is down to the individual's style.

Males and females differ in colour. Males typically are natural (horse) coloured, and nearly always have a jet black face and neck (dark roan marking). Other facial markings however can be present, especially near the eyes and nose. Mane and tails in males are nearly always black, and always a dark colour. Females can have dull pastels for their coats, and of course their heads too feature a darker tint upon the head and neck areas. Their hair can be more varied, from reds/oranges to black. Hair is more often than not wavy, and rarely cut.

Deer (outward ears) are more prevalent in this clan. We also observe that their horns are somewhat longer than our own - not by a large amount, but still noticeable. Some individuals take to wearing caps of jewels upon their horns as well.

Eye colour appears to be either gold or red. No other colour has been seen so far. Hooves, unlike Philoden, are always somewhat dark (brown or black)

Their living arrangements are varied. Some live close to ruins, and have circular houses made of sand blocks, with the living conditions found underneath the walls of the house itself. Others, more on outskirts or simply travelers, live in elaborate tents, highly decorated and usually adorned with the scarf colours of the family or individual that reside in it.

A delicacy is grilled plant life, including hard to find cacti.

Slightly longer horns than other clans
Their hip wings point downward, and sometimes trail down the leg.
Always wear a large scarf in some form. Usually has markings upon it.
Males usually display black hair and roan markings on the head, females can present lighter pelt and hair colours. Other examples may be out there However.
Brown or black hoof colours always present.
Red or Gold eye colour
Tails are long in length, with wavy, trailing hair at the base.
Names tend to be Middle Eastern or African in nature, unless high ranking.
Dislike being called Philoden.
